Cerebral Palsy Sufferer Raises Money for Cancer Research
Early this month, a charity rugby tournament in Farnborough collected funds for Holly Hayden’s new wheelchair. A cerebral palsy sufferer, Holly was diagnosed with motor disability when she was less than two years old, and has since undergone various surgeries and procedures in her legs.According to her mother, Jo Lynch, Holly’s old wheelchair was heavy and hard to use, and so contributed very little to Holly’s quality of life. Lynch’s friend Michelle Draing organized the tournament fundraiser, which also featured a cake stall, tombola and ice cream, with hopes of helping Holly participate in various school and extracurricular activities. After purchasing her Pantherau U2 wheelchair, Holly donated all of the extra cash (over $1,000) to Lifeline 4 Kids and the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospital. She then used her new wheels to participate in the Race for Life charity event, raising more than $200 for cancer research. Her mother said: “Holly did spectacularly well in the Race for Life, it was great fun. Holly walked the majority of it, using her chair to help when she needed a rest. The new wheelchair was a God-send as her old chair would have been a struggle to get round.”
