Mechanical Aids

Mechanical aids, ranging from something as simple as velcro closings, to complex as high tech computerized communication networks, all make up the specialized machines, tools and gadgets at home, in school, and at the workplace that can help the CP child or adult with overcome most of everyday’s limitations.

Computers are the most striking example of a new device that are making a difference in the lives of CP patients. A child who is unable to communicate through speaking or writing but who is capable of moving his head, may well be able to communicate by using a computer with a special light pointer that attaches to a headband.

A computer and voice synthesizer will enable this child to communicate with the world around him. No less significant, technology has led to revised versions of old devices, greatly expanding the functionality of wheelchairs when motors are attached to them.
