In Philadelphia, the officers in the 35th Police District recently hosted a holiday party for special needs kids and young adults. The party was hosted at the Widener School for the Disabled, where officers have maintained a long standing relationship with the children with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and many other issues.
As Will Pizarro, 18, explained simply, “The officers come, they eat pizzas with us, and we talk with them. It’s really nice of them to do that.” Officer Roz Downing, who has organized the event each year, said, “A lot of the kids here are not just physically challenged, but they have terminal illnesses. Some of them pass away in middle school. We’ve lost some younger children.”
On December 18th, however, the children with cancer, cerebral palsy and many other ailments were able to forget about their issues and simply have fun with Santa.
